Sophia Lezizidis makes Whitecaps London proud as a London, Ontario, alumna whose journey reached a provincial team, a national development invitation, a conference championship at Grambling State, and Western Kentucky University. From eight seasons with our club to a tournament MVP award in college, she has given us a remarkable story to celebrate.
Eight seasons in our club
Western Kentucky's 2026 player biography says Sophia spent eight seasons with Whitecaps London. It records that she was a member of the Ontario Provincial Team in 2019 and received an invitation to the National Development Center in 2021 and 2022. An invitation is the fact in the record; it does not mean we can claim that she held a centre roster place. Each step matters on its own terms.
The same biography reports a 2022 season in which her team finished second in the OPDL Championship and put together a 15-game winning streak. It lists Sophia as the top scorer that year with 24 goals. These markers show a substantial Whitecaps London chapter before her move to college. The goals, the run of wins and the provincial recognition give our club several moments to remember from those years.
A title at Grambling State
Sophia spent three seasons at Grambling State before transferring to Western Kentucky. Western Kentucky credits her with 22 goals and 17 assists during those seasons and lists her as a team captain in 2025. It also records a place on the SWAC All-Conference Tournament Team in each of her three seasons. These details make the college chapter more than a name on a roster: she competed, contributed, and collected honours that the university has recorded.
The 2023 SWAC tournament brought another milestone. The SWAC's retrospective says Grambling State beat Jackson State 2-1 to win the tournament championship. Sophia scored one of Grambling's goals in the final, and the conference named her tournament MVP. The same report credits her with four goals across that tournament. The result belongs to the full team, while her goal and award are a distinct part of it.
Western Kentucky's biography also lists a 2024 Grambling State Offensive Player of the Year award and a 2025 SWAC Preseason Offensive Player of the Year selection. A preseason honour is a recognition before a season; it is not a claim about the final standings. We are proud to say exactly what the record supports.
A new university chapter
Western Kentucky lists Sophia on its 2026 women's soccer roster as a senior from London, with Grambling State as her previous school. That is the latest official destination in this profile. Her journey is already full: eight seasons in Whitecaps London, provincial recognition, a national development invitation, a SWAC tournament-final goal, a tournament MVP award, and a move to another college program.
For young players here, Sophia's story can be encouragement without becoming a formula. Our OPDL program is part of the club pathway she came through. A child in London can look at her 2023 tournament final goal and MVP honour and imagine what a long road of work might make possible. We are proud that one of our own carried Whitecaps London into these college chapters, and we will follow the new one at Western Kentucky with interest.
